Philosophy of Government

No one knows all the decisions a County Commissioner will be called upon to make in the course of a four year term. The best predictor of how I will make decisions is set forth below. I pledge to honestly weigh all facts based upon these principles in arriving at a decision. Here are some of my paramount principles of local government:

The foremost responsibility of County Government is the health and safety of those who live in, work in, and visit Seminole County.

The County Commission should always approach taxes with restraint. We should always be trying to determine the least amount of taxes required for acceptable levels of each service.

Fees should be viewed every bit as seriously as taxes. Such charges should have a direct relationship to government’s cost to provide the service and its impact on the payer of the service. The question, “Is this fair and equitable?” should be asked before any decision of government is finalized.

County Employees should not only be talented and efficient at their work, but also polite, pleasant and eager to help. Commissioners must insist that all citizens be treated like customers welcomed by a business.

Independent Contractors hired by the County should be scrutinized as closely as employees in terms of job performance. We should be known as a County that demands a reasonable price from every contractor engaged and insists upon the highest standard of performance from those with whom we do business. We should never forget that the money we spend as Commissioners is your money and we are your elected stewards.

Projects or issues supported or opposed by special interest groups should be dealt with on their merits without regard to the makeup of the support group or the opposition group.

I will view the District 2 Seminole County Commission Seat as being on loan from the voters. I will render no decision or take any action for personal gain or to garner political favor.
